Variety

Desert Camp to Desert Camp
October 8th
140km (1,583m vertical)

Last night was cold, and the temperature had only risen to 44F by the time we left camp this morning. We were warned that today would be long and had a lot of climbing, so a headwind would really have been a disaster. Thankfully, the icy wind was behind us today. Its about time!

We passed over a few small mountain ranges as we left the Xinjiang province and entered Gangsu. I greatly appreciated the scenic variety...even if dusty desert was only replaced with dusty mountains.

Another windy camp site tonight, and I managed to put a few small holes in my tent as I piled on rocks to hold it down. We only have about 6 more camping nights on the trip, so I'm sure I will survive. After a night of shivers, I'm glad that we switch to hotels soon.

Finally...a road that is not flat!
